Fazza Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 SCDPM 2012 gives me the following error when trying to backup a VM on our Hypervisor Host server: An unexpected error occurred on DPM server machine during a VSS operation. (ID 207 Details: VssError:The shadow copy provider had an error. Check the System and Application event logs for more information. (0x80042306)) When I look at the Windows Event Log I get this message: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error DeviceIoControl(\\?\Volume{b80d01ad-3307-11e3-93f4-001b2165b6fd} - 000000000000030C,0x0053c06c,000000A53BD52960,0,000000A53BD51950,4096,[0]). hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied. From what I understand there is a permission error somewhere, I just dont know if it's a service, registry key or something else?!
jdlee00 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 If your using ISCSI this might be the issue your running into. https://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2012/10/08/iscsi-target-storage-vds-vss-provider.aspx?Redirected=true
the_dude Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 This was happening to me while using the iSCSI hardware providers VSS writer. (Equalogic SAN) The solution was to disable the Equalogic VSS writer. https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&wtrealm=social.technet.microsoft.com&wreply=https%3a%2f%2fsocial.technet.microsoft.com%2fForums%2fen-US%2fc66d3ab4-44d7-4a24-bb4b-9b20b3ed56d1%2fbackup-of-hyperv-2012-csv-intermittent-fails-with-error-0x80042301%3fstoAI%3d10&wp=MBI_FED_SSL&wlcxt=microsoft%24microsoft%24microsoft DPM Backup of CSV storage on Equallogic - EqualLogic - Storage - Dell Community
