They may be salesmen but it's currys merged with PC world... It just frustrates me they have staff selling stuff they don't understand... it's all well and dandy reading off a sticker on the box but if you can't describe to me what a processor does or why thermal paste is important, why are you still working there? Maybe im just being a grumpy person today

Dan from Dan's Data did a comparison test of thermal compounds a looong time ago. For shiggles he tested Vegemite and toothpaste alongside them. Toothpaste was surprisingly effective in the short term but because it's water based, it'd dry out in no time. http://www.dansdata.com/goop.htm

They are the most prevalent bricks & mortar store I know, but independent stores (or if you're lucky enough to live local online retailers with shop fronts such as Scan) generally have better prices and more clued up staff, though they can be hit and miss too. For personal use though, I've never needed anything so urgently I couldn't order online and wait for next day delivery.

You can't just go in there on the off chance they would have it in stock and the staff would know what it was! PC World make their money from selling overpriced pre-built systems to old people.
