northeast_technician Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Help! I have been forced into keeping some new laptops with windows8.1 running. We currently have server 2008r2 running 3 hv servers all with server 2008r2. All of our windows 7 laptops work fine with students and staff using roaming profiles. Windows 8.1 however is another matter. Some students and staff have had no issues what so ever while some just want to give up in frustration, with shared network drives, documents, start menus etc all running over roaming profiles not coming up. Plus i have dont login with temp profile enabled. Could anyone help or advise on this? Thanks in advance
5tu Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Have you read this? Incompatibility between Windows 8.1 roaming user profiles and those in earlier versions of Windows 1
northeast_technician Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 yes, tried the resolution at the bottom with very little success. Realistically is the best option to scrap 8.1 and just have whole school on win7
5tu Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 The solution offered on that article in essence appends .v4 to any profiles created on Windows 8.1 workstations thus separating them from Windows 7 profiles which use a .v2 extension. Therefore users could then roam between Windows 7 and 8.1 machines but have separate profiles for each OS. Is that what you're after? Just my personal opinion, but until you've got 2012 R2 DCs in place I'd keep everything W7.
