Hi all have trolled through some posts on here but am still not sure (and given that i can't get through to the support desk) will ask the question here.

I currently run full MS SQL server 2000 (not msde) do i need to upgrade this to full SQL server 2005 to be able run the latest sims releases or is it only those still running msde that need to upgrade?

as always thanks in advance.

Hi, i think if you have full sql 2000 you must upgrade to full 2005 before the November release. Also might be worth noting you should have service pack 3 or above on sql 2000 before running sims upgrade utility.

Hope this helps.

is it a traight upgrade path then? ie pop in 2005 and it does it itself or is there a almighty migration process (i worry to death whenever theres any major change to sims, why is that i wonder??)

I think the best way forward is to install SQL2005 in tandem with SQL2000. When you install 2005, it will ask if you want it to automatically upgrade all your 2000 DBs to 2005. Say NO!

After it is installed, ask your local helpdesk to make the migration tool available to you via solus. Do your backups one final time, then run the Migration!

Will the FMS upgrade run on a database on the same sql server 2005 server? Our instructions are that we MUST install SQL Express on the SIMS Server as well as the sql 2005!

Our SIMS and FMS run on separate servers, each with their own full copy of SQL2005. I'm pretty sure you can run them both on the same SQL2005 install, just with different instances.

There will almost certainly be information about the supported configurations on SupportNet.
