boomish Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I can't for my life figure out why new users are missing a share (staff) , drive mapping are by GPO, all permissions seem right the share is within a folder that I can see other shares but even though I can find it on the network I can't access it from affected users profiles. AT first I thought it was the same as the odd disappearing share, where we have to recreate a profile I think this is to do with new users profiles as wev'e got 3 new teachers and none of them can access this 1 share.. Any clues? I'm still really new to server 2012 and the old admin has now retired! he said the look of 2012 put him off learning it all over again:) So I think we have older profiles that access fine but any new ones aren't..I know it's something really simple but I just can't seem to find it.
SHimmer45 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 so your doing folder redirection for a users by the sounds of it? when you create a new user does a folder not appear in the path specified in the profile path? what does event viewer on the client say after the user has logged in as this will usually point you in the correct direction (which is usually a permission issue) are the new users members of the correct group (assuming your folder redirection policy is different for staff and pupils in terms of the locatios) 1
Grey-gear Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Not sure if I can help but when you make a new profile do you copy older ones or make from scatch, in AD if you copy a old account the new one will have all of the same permission as the one you copied. Also are the accounts all in the same groups? Sorry if this does not help. 1
fairm010 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I had this a while ago, turns out I was trying to use a drive letter already in use. Change what you are using and see if it maps. 1
boomish Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the quick replies, your life savers as it's doing my head in, yep folder redirection, I didn't see anything in event viewer for permissions issues I'll check that again. Yep all members of the same group, this is just a staff issue Ahh now I didn't create these profiles but they used to copy profiles but now they are auto created via Sims , in fact i just tried mine and it has the same missing share problem (I normally use my admin login now my staff login) the share is a folder and there are drive mapped folders within. of which they can see 3 but not the fourth. If I try to access it says you don't have the correct permission. I could try copying another profile but I'd rather try and sort the permissions..it's nested somewhere in there lol probably obvious I know.. Thanks again Edited February 4, 2014 by boomish
SHimmer45 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 your importing new users via SIMS, so you have a plugin to auto import data then if you manually add a user in AD does it create the share correctly? 1
boomish Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 Hey Shimmer thanks mate yes I was just working on that, I know there is a plugin, but I haven't had a chance to look at that yet, so many interruptions today:) I manually created a test profile and that worked fine!! that led me to finding an older group not in their profile, the new group obviously hasn't got all the shares within it, weird I looked at them! Well at least I got it working, not sure it's right to have two groups doing the same thing, I 'll look into this plugin when I get a chance, thanks guys for all the help..I knew it would be simple
