GREED Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 I'm in tears of laughter Oh no, I'm sure it's brilliant like all the other MIS systems (each with their own unique "features" of course). Let me put it this way, the last time @GREED was in our offices he was trying to sell us Aspen. I'm be very professional (and honest) in that is (was) a very good system, very much up there with the best on offer. Wish I could have shown it to you @matt40k I know your team were very interested in it! I won't comment further on where it is now, despite not having worked for them for a few months now.
GREED Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 I too am now in tears of laughter There was nothing wrong with my sales talk...

I know the company pushing Aspen and I have nothing but excellent things to say about them, they helped me massively during a new build project a few years back. They know a good product when they see it, I thought maybe matt40k had experience of the product.in a live environment.
pcstru Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 :I won't comment further on where it is now, despite not having worked for them for a few months now. In the bin isn't it - as far as the UK is concerned. Presumably that's why it isn't on your list?

Good. They know a good product when they see it It is an excellent product. Wouldn't have won a contract to supply all of British Columbia, Canada otherwise! In the bin isn't it - as far as the UK is concerned. Presumably that's why it isn't on your list? It is no longer on offer in the UK, correct. Not necessarily for good though... I'll say no more Edited February 5, 2014 by GREED
matt40k Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I thought maybe matt40k had experience of the product.in a live environment. Nope, wasn't free at the time and it never made it very far here. My colleagues gave them a list of things they would need to be improved and I guess "they" were thinking it was a fully loaded drop-in replacement. Which it wasn't for us. The summary is the USA education market works differently to the UK market, so they need to make a UK version.

Actually, at that time it was very close to being that and there were a lot of additional use unique to Aspen that the council could would have taken on. I believe there was a breakdown in communication between our mutual partner at the time. MODS: Can we move the last half dozen posts on Aspen to a different thread?
GREED Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Thanks Richard great to hear. When everything is collated I will send to you.
Bromcom_John Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 When its done you can certainly throw it our way. It'll probably involve me answering some of the questions anyway Being half way literate tends to get you dragged into anything even remotely related to your day job these days.

Thanks John I'm about half way through so far. Hoping for more questions from the Edugeek community
GREED Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 More questions please guys, anything and everything. Support, database, applications, integrations, features of the MIS, roadmaps...
GREED Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Right well, I was hoping the interest in asking suppliers key questions would have inspired more interaction from the masses, but never mind... I have gotten my bum in gear and finished the survey/questionnaire! I will be sending this to all suppliers end of this week. All instructions are included. For suppliers that have responded (thank you) to this thread, if you have anyone specific or contact details of where to send this I will action. As opposed to sending to the contact I have already through my work... if at all. Please PM with any details. Thank you to all those that helped with questions, in particular @matt40k for critiquing it! And thank you in advance to all suppliers who will see the value in what this will achieve and reply. Responses will be posted once collated, unsure yet where but I'm looking at a dedicated website to link to. This will be coupled with a hefty analysis document on MIS customer figures built on top of the census figures myself and @matt40k have researched. Fun times!
BKGarry Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Can't believed I missed this. Although I would need to go through the whole set of questions in my head to make sure the was not vendor specific. I would love to see a market where products specialise in different areas but could all talk to one and other seamlessly but it is sooooo hard with each school working differently.
GREED Posted March 12, 2014 Author Posted March 12, 2014 I have been careful to make the questions objective. There are some areas that I know some suppliers to do cover, but have tried to take that from as many as possible. This, while styled like one, is not a tender document. It is a survey designed to tease out as much info from suppliers and their products as possible, and for everyone to see so everyone is on a level playing field. 1
GREED Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 The questionnaire is going out now! Well, to as many of the suppliers on the list as I have contact details for...
GREED Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 If anyone has any sales contacts, or senior level contacts at Wauton Samuel, WCBS or SchoolPod then please PM me with them. These are the only outstanding MIS's I have not sent to today (and I don't want to send it to info@...) Lets see what we get back!!
matt40k Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 It would have been interesting if you sent it to all the generic mailbox to see how well they deal with random requests, be an unofficial testing of their support system 1

GREED Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 It would have been interesting if you sent it to all the generic mailbox to see how well they deal with random requests, be an unofficial testing of their support system I will be honest even though I have sent it to the MDs or key sales managers there will still be a test as to if they see the true value of what a reply will do for them as well as us.
