So I recieved this email.....

Hey Guys

 

Been dealing with a member of staff and her notebook issue for a while now a week ago I found she had downloaded a virus which transferred across to the file server I had to remove it from the local machine and the server and sort it all out. The virus is gone now but she's still experiencing issues and I have no idea why? Really hoping one of you guys could shed some light on this as I don't know where to go next this is a copy of the email and the symptoms she's getting. Shes a lovely member of staff so I'd like to help her but I'm really stuck! (Name changed for protection):

LUCKILY! I didn't trust my laptop to be sensible and I emailed myself my

Notebooks as a precaution during my planning time today. I say 'luckily'

because Notebook has done the exact same thing. Can't close the file down

because it keeps saying 'do you want to save the changes' when I have,

indeed, already saved these changes. Then it says it can't locate the file

and is opening a 'read only copy'. Why why why?! I haven't taken this

laptop out of the building since the incident. I pretty much only use it

for Notebook now and bring my MacBook into school.

 

Please help, this could cause me to waste so much time.

Edit: This is about Smart Notebook by the way latest version, no other member of staff has complained about any issues so far...

Smart Notebook 11 is a virus (joke), but in all seriousness, just backup her data and re-image the machine. Should be easy enough

It keeps saying the file that she saved is open in another programme and it's opening a read only file. When you click OK it errors and says the file you are trying to open doesn't exsist even though it does because it is there? The file is saved on her Home Drive and I've checked the server that's not accessing the file either so its really strange... I don't think re imaging will help surely because surely it has something to do with her account or the server???

Does it happen if she logs into another machine ?

You could delete her account, re-create it then re-map her network drive.

I don't know I cant test it we don't have any other machines with smartboard on that she can use!

If I delete her account won't her roaming profile still be there and it will in reality be the exact same account thus the exact same problems??

just out of curiosity you don't set quota limits on accounts do you for storage? if so does she have enough space to save files?

Save her data, reimage the machine, delete her profile off the server. You might get away with not having to recreate her account if you are lucky

Ugh. I was scared I'd have to do all this oh well seems to be the only way. We don't have a imageing solution. I did use clonezilla for a while but for some reason it wouldn't re-image some of the machines :S! I'm going to have to rebuild the image of her machine and create her account meaning she might be without a laptop for about a day

Rebuild to be honest - even if it takes a day. Would prob be the safest thing imo.
