This has been driving me mad for months.

Since the latest wave update my Outlook clients on site connect, then disconnect, then connect, disconnect etc.

As far as I can tell this does work fine off site - and the connection analyser tool checks out OK.

My tenant domain school.bham.sch.uk is also the same as my internal AD domain (also school.bham.sch.uk) - don't ask why it's legacy.

I've set all the DNS records up - even typing autodiscover.school.bham.sch.uk into a browser takes you directly to OWA.

I've been reading that a very small % of users have had problems with Outlook and the latest wave of O365, but I cannot tell whether I am one of the really unlucky ones or there is something screwy in my internal DNS which I'm too stupid to figure out.

Help!

It sounds firewall ish to me, the fact everything works outside of school talking to Office 365.

I don't believe it's DNS, as surely it wouldn't connect at all, but connecting and instantly disconnecting does sound like a firewall issue.

This is what you're looking for:

POP setting

Server name: outlook.office365.com

Port: 995

Encryption method: SSL

IMAP setting

Server name: outlook.office365.com

Port: 993

Encryption method: SSL

SMTP setting

Server name: smtp.office365.com

Port: 587

Encryption method: TLS

Hope this helps!

Edit: It might be because Microsoft previously used different server names, whereas now they're standardised and have been for quite some time.

I remember having that issue before we got the upgrade, our issue was related to the LA internet and the filters they controlled. As soon as we went with a different provider everything worked fine.

Hmm bizarrely it works from our partner school who are part of the same LEA network.

This has to be a DNS issue, but I just can't see it. There aren't that many DNS settings to get wrong, and I've triple checked all of them!

It bloody well is the bypass proxy!

How the hell this has occurred is beyond me!

Well I've been meaning to setup a PAC file for years, got no choice now.
