synaesthesia Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Desperate one We use BlueIris for some basic ICT room CCTV. It does it's job very well, but we found it has a particular problem. We were using it to trace non computer related crimes (2!) this week and we got exactly what we needed. Thankfully 5 people independantly saw the footage. However just afterwards, we noticed how annoying it was that it skipped every now and then, due to it being motion triggered. So changed to a scheduled continuous recording. Doing that deleted all previous recordings with no warning or notification it was going to, or had done so. Swear words. Lots of them. A few more swear words. So, Recuva tried. No good, file size 0. (these were between 1 and 2 gb in size). Being aware of the NTFS mft issue with large files, tried the deep scan. No good. Getdataback with deep scan. No good. Currently trying Photorec over the entire drive but I'm not holding out any hope. Can anyone recommend anything that's more likely to help? Thankfully I've been able to recover some of the stills but really we need the video footage so we can show the parents involved. I have to take responsibility really, although clearly the software isn't ideal I should have copied the relevant file to a safe location.

I too have recently changed the recording from motion sensitive to continuous and its kept my old recordings but my recordings are named by camera, date and time. In future, try limiting the recordings to a set time or a set size so they dont over write each other. Try using puran file recovery. This software works well for recovong data from usb drives which have had the file system changed to raw and definately manages to recover all items so give it a go. It might do a deeper scan than the others.
Steven_Cleaver Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 You could try Hirens Boot disk has a fair few utilities on their for recovering files along with a mass of other useful tools used this quite a few times with great success.
synaesthesia Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 Puran was the second one we tried, same results as Recuva. I could get full data recovery from R-Studio but no way of finding the file segments in the huge chunk of data. I think it's being left as is now anyway, just a few alterations to the way we handle CCTV in future. Haven't looked at the Hirens stuff, I'll have a go tomorrow maybe now we've got the drive cloned.

Oaktech Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 How much $ can you throw at it? About £60 will get you the reclaime recovery software, and we've used that to get back all sorts of big files...

synaesthesia Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Heh cheers I'm running the trial of ReclaiMe over it. Looks like it'll take a good few hours (read, probably a couple of days) but may provide some hope if we need to!
