Morning All,

I am looking to replace 2 failed UPS devices, which power 4 low power usage servers.

I am proposing to use 2 x APC SMART-UPS SMT 1500VA devices. I know that they can be connected to 1 machine only in terms of power management to allow for safe shut down. I wonder are there any UPS devices of this range and power which can talk to multiple machines, without having 1 devices per server.

Thanks.

One option would be to fit an APC Network Management Card into the expansion slot of each UPS. They can then communicate with all connected servers via IP. Unfortunately those cards are about £150 each which may put them out of your price range.

Thanks :)

Of course I could just buy a higher rated device and install 1 card, they are only small single CPU servers and Im not really looking for them to stay up for hours, just enough to give them time to shut down.

I will look into the card

use a shutdown script on the managed pc that shutsdown the others on the same ups?

Bingo, Its amazingly simple when you know how. I can then use an MCWOL script when that server re-boots.
