Staff friendly Wiki

Hello all,

 

I have this crazy idea, we have the situation here where a few people get asked lots and lots of questions about how certain processes work and where to find information (we have a shared drive for this, but it is still a bit tricky) so I have come up with the idea of running our own wiki.

 

I am now hitting the stumbling block about which wiki platform would be the easiest for staff to not only use, but to put the information in with minimal training.

 

I have installed mediawiki as a place to start, but I find the editing interface is a bit minimal for our staff and they cannot attach a file (if needed) within its editor.

I have a windows server with MySQL and PHP on which is currently being setup for moodle, so I can utilise that for running it, but I really need a platform which is nice to create pages collaboratively and add files too, and has a nice WYSIWYG editor.

 

Any suggestions would be great.

The least work option would be to use your existing Moodle. V2 has a very nice editor (IMO). Not strictly a wiki, but Joomla can do all that you want and is easy to setup and administer. Once you get into it, there are loads of plugins available to make it do more.

I was thinking maybe using moodle, just not too sure how to set it up (I love the editor too)

 

All I have done with moodle so far is install it, got the SSL cert and published it externally, themed it and got LDAP working, I haven't even made a course yet (I think that is the correct term in moodle) I need to continue reading my book on it, and getting it working nicely.

I have a http://www.dokuwiki.org in place, for the few staff that use it they like it and find it easy to use.

I had MediaWiki set up for policies and procedures. Was an epic job to set up how we wanted it but once done it was easy to manage and for users to edit and add things as long as they followed the very easy rules.
