abillybob Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Hey Guys So I have a dual band router which supplys both 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels over one SSID, problem being is that my computer (which has a 5ghz adapter) won't go onto 5ghz unless I separate the SSID's, is there anyway I can tell my PC to use the 5ghz wifi network and why doesn't it do this automatically? Cheers Guys!
psydii Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Usually this is controllable in driver properties.
Norphy Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 If you're using a computer with an intel wnic, you can set it to "prefer 5ghz" inside the driver properties. A little while ago, I found the registry key which this property set and pushed it out using a group policy preference. I'll try to dig it out at work tomorrow if it's any use to you.
abillybob Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 Thanks for getting back so quickly I can't find "Prefer 5Ghz" under driver properties anywhere it's a Broadcomm ac Network adapter! Hmmm
difinity Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Can you force it to just use 'a' in the wireless settings ?
Norphy Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Thanks for getting back so quickly I can't find "Prefer 5Ghz" under driver properties anywhere it's a Broadcomm ac Network adapter! Hmmm Sorry, all of our laptops use Intel wnics. I have no idea if Broadcom ones use that setting or not
abillybob Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Surely I don't want to force it to use "a" 5Ghz because that is painfully slow??Can you force it to just use 'a' in the wireless settings ?
difinity Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 a is 5Ghz. it's not so good through walls, i forgot n was 5Ghz also.
Tesla Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 not sure if this is relevant? Might be something useful on here to investigate... Broadcom Wireless N adapter not working in N mode - Samsung NF210 netbook - Hardware Hangout - Neowin Forums
Arthur Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I have a dual band router which supplies both 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels over one SSID Is it a simultaneous dual band router? Some of the cheaper ones aren't.
