I'm not sure if this is strictly in the right forum but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Backup Exec 2012 SP3 and Windows Server 2012. We are looking to purchase a new backup server only it comes pre-installed with Windows Storage Server 2012 Standard. Can Backup Exec 2012 Media Server be installed on Storage Server 2012?? I know they added agent support for Server 2012 at SP2 level but I can't find any information on the media server side of things.

Thanks

2012 or 2012r2 arnt supported as media servers on backup exec 2012 at all at the moment. I'd possibly look elsewhere for backup given a choice backup exec isnt what it once was!

+1 for Veeam. Version 7 with the latest patches can now backup to tape as well if you need it. I know lots of places now retiring Backup Exec in favour of Veeam as a result.

Update: I should also state that if you aren't using vSphere or Hyper-V and don't need to backup VMs (which is what Veeam is for), then another good solution is BackupAssist. Fantastically simple, but powerful and reliable software that doesn't cost a mint.

Yes, I've just discovered this. BE 2012 does not work on server 2012 (only the agent, which isn't much use)

I'm ditching BE from now on - I guess symantec will lose some customers over their failure to keep up
