Adobe Flash Player v12.0.0.43 Released (along with new version numbering scheme)

The PUBLIC download links are shown below. MSI's can be downloaded from the usual place. v12.0.0.43 is also the first release to officially support Internet Explorer 11.

Today we are introducing a new numbering scheme for our product versions. Adopting the pattern set by Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, we will simply update the major version number with each subsequent release. In other words, beginning with this release, Flash Player will become Flash Player 12. With each new major release, roughly every 3 months, that number will increase by one.

 

This change will also apply to the AIR Runtime and AIR SDK. This release will be numbered AIR 4 and AIR SDK 4; however, with our "King" (Q2 2014) release, the version number will be synchronized with the Flash Player version at 13.

That's par for the course with Adobe, the .msi version is always the last to be updated. Sometimes they forget altogether until they get enough complaints.

Note that if you're using the fp_background_update.cab on an internally hosted server, you need to create a 12 folder.

Except you don't because the Admin Guide changed and removed the "make sure you create a folder for the major version" (and Adobe have changed the versioning).

 

Just sling it in the existing "11" folder.

You can get the version 12 MSI by going to the usual MSI distribution page (you know the one, the one I can't link to), copying the URL from the 11.9 MSI shortcut, and altering install_flash_player_11_active_x.msi in that URL to install_flash_player_12_active_x.msi. The file is there, they've just not updated their distribution page because they're idiots or lazy or something.

On a slightly related topic, what do you put for "How many copies will you be distributing within the next 12 months?" on the licence request? [i totally forgot I had to renew it...]

 

Apparently "No clue. How many updates are you doing?" isn't a valid response...

 

Also, WTF does "Please provide the product or service name and description" actually mean?

The distribution page often sounds like it's designed around people sending out AOL CDs, basically. "Over 2 hours of multimedia content and great free games!"

 

The Adobe AIR download looks to be wrong as well - the normal download page shows version 4.0, the distribution page gives you 3.9.0.1380 - and sadly doesn't work on the same naming principle as Flash, just http://.../download/latest/AdobeAIRInstaller.exe - I'm assuming that's an ironic "latest", therefore.
