SpuffMonkey Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 We do the ALAN exams and have been very happy with the Exambase software that is used - but our exam officer was just registering some students to take them - and apparently Exambase has been dropped for a replacement - just wondered if anyone had seen it - and if so - what it was like? Its a hassle as Exambase goes by end of October - so now we've got to schedule in some server work and messing about with clients in all the IT suites (I would guess)...
plexer Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 The software its replaced with is designed to be more flexible. You can schedule mutliple sessions in a day and for specific lengths of time i.e 1 hour instead of 4. You can also submit students at any time no need for 24 hours notice. Centres will be receiving email instructions for the new software shortly. Ben
DMcCoy Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Shortly? I'm being hounded with emails telling me I MUST INSTALL IT NOW!!!!! Read through the instructions, don't like it already.
ChrisP Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 set it up today!!! not done the demo yet. easy as ABC, stick it in a VM!!
bossman Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Your all very lucky indeed as we do the alan exams but i have had nothing so far!! usual case of wait until 2 days before they need it and then they will shout!
Sylv3r Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 We did the ALAN tests for the first time last year and I haven't heard anything about new software up to now.
DMcCoy Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Your nominated contact should be getting lots of mails about it, I've had several forwarded to me, changeover needs to be done in the next 30 days.
mrforgetful Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Where do I get this from? I'm guessing not from the downloads section of the http://www.exambase.org.uk website? We're meant to be running our first batch of tests on the 16th October and this is the first I've heard of anything, and now our testing won't load.
Scruff Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 You need to fill out the updated tech requirements form and then they should send you downloading instructions. I've not done this yet as I really like the current platform so i'm putting it off until last minute. Getting lots of emails about it now though. We are very concerned that we haven’t heard from you, as there is very little time before the current system is no longer available. As yet we have not received your updated technical specification form. All centres will need to upgrade to the new platform by 31 October 2007. After this date the current Onscreen Testing platform will no longer be available. Even if you don’t intend to register your students until a future date, you must upgrade to new system.
mrforgetful Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 I get no emails I think they go to the Exams Officer who's not in this week. I've filled in my section of that questionaire it'll just have to wait now.
SpuffMonkey Posted October 9, 2007 Author Posted October 9, 2007 They are not very dynamic - I faxed off our stuff a week ago - but nothing yet - I phoned today and they reckoned it might ber out in a week or so - which given it needs to be done by the end of October wasn't very helpful - they've now agreed to pull their collective finger out for me...
SpuffMonkey Posted October 10, 2007 Author Posted October 10, 2007 Well - hush my mouth - it all turned up this morning - another huge Installation Manual to read and inwardly digest.
