Tablet devices and authentication...

How do folks using Android or iOS devices on their networks get the devices to authenticate for use on the internet?

 

My thoughts turn to a Meraki MX solution or a filter solution.

I use Smoothwall with a transparent proxy in place, it shows up an SSL login page prompting the user for their Username & Password so we can still make sure the kids aren't going on anything naughty. I use Meraki to move around paid apps to various different devices using tags has worked pretty well since we got it all sorted

We have been installing Meraki MX60's, however the authentication page has seemingly disappeared. According to Meraki we might have to factory reset to get back... I'm more perplexed at this facility disappearing.

We use a lightspeed rocket filtering solution, by default users get KS3 filtering but if they access a 'blocked' page they get the option to login and get the appropriate level of access. There is a way to do a one-time permanent authentication for mobile devices but we haven't needed to do this so I can't comment on its effectiveness.

We have a Captive Portal Page where if you are not logged on to a computer that has been authenticated by Active Directory (such as a tablet or mobile phone) then you are prompted to enter your credentials before the system will then let you on.

The problem I'm trying to figure with this is that once a user has entered their credentials for the proxy, they stick. So the next person comes along, and browses using the previous user's credentials. Has anyone solved this yet?

I did, I found that with Smoothwall you can set the amount of minutes to time out. Ours is 10 so if the user hasn't used the internet in the last 10 minutes Smoothwall automatically logs them out Hope this helps!
