jrma91 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Morning All, I know that I might be a week early for many of you who have not thought about this yet, but for once I am ahead of myself in regards to data , and I am preparing for the school census next week. Whilst doing this I received some correspondance from our AEN Co-Ordinator in regards to the change of SEN, from SA, SA+ & statemented to SEN with EHC plan and SEN without EHC Plan, which is due to come in from Sept 2014. Below is part of what was sent.... "The first time the census will reflect this new terminology will be in January 2015, but the revised Code will be in place from September 2014 which will give an awkward mismatch of information between September 2014 and January 2015 for school leaders, governors and Ofsted inspectors. To help schools to make the transition to this new categorisation and mindful that the Autumn 2014 RAISEonline publications will pick up the SEN census information from January 2014 census, we would like to recommend the following: • do not enter any pupil at school action; • only identify pupils at school action plus if you are making ‘additional and different’ special educational provision for them due to them making inadequate progress, despite high-quality teaching targeted at their areas of weakness; • enter all pupils with a statement of SEN under statutory action;" Just wanted to share & get possible thoughts from people as to whether or not this might be a good idea!? Regards. jrma91
GREED Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Ah Census... it wouldn't be right if there were not some messy or last minute change!
LosOjos Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 So if I'm reading that correctly, they want us to remove all SEN A students from the cohort before we submit the census? Our SEN dept. won't like that...
CAM Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Where is this guidance coming from? We aren't removing anyone on Action as far as I know.
jrma91 Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 SEN Census guidance November 2013.docx The "guidance" came from our Senior Improvement Adviser - Special and PRU Education, Learning and Skills, Standards and School Improvement. I have attached the document for people to have a full read! Thankfully our head has told us not to do it, as he is reading it as a guide, not something that we have to do yet! 1
CAM Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 (edited) Interesting, I checked the Secondary, Special and PRU notes from my LA and they haven't mentioned anything about a ban on certain SEN codes or a SEN Status overhaul. I think this might be guidance specific to your LA, anyone else had this? EDIT - Spoke to my SENCO who knows of the consultation for change but she thinks your LA is acting a bit early to do whatever they are doing regarding the changes as the consultation has only recently finished. Ours aren't making any changes yet so it may vary from county to county. Edited January 9, 2014 by CAM
NormalDistribution Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I agree. Don't do it. Way too vague, there's no such thing as RAISEonline 2014 anyway. Going to add this to the discussion on the Data managers group: Data Managers - EduGeek.net 1
NormalDistribution Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 This guidance seems to come from Kent: SEN census seems bizarre to me.
jrma91 Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 This is KENT LA for you! Nothing they do is normal!
