TechSupp Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 We now have AB Tutor and I have now found out our DNS and DHCP are out of sync (some pc's not maping the correct name to PC location in AB Tutor). Two questions really, 1) is this a simple task to rectify so they are always in sync and 2) are there any other issues this could have been causing
TechSupp Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 that I dont know, its been a case of if it aint broke dont fiddle so never looked, where would I find that out?
mikeyd101 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 (edited) I presume your windows. In dhcp -> domain -> Scope - (right click) > properties, we have ours set at 2 days. Also if you have multiple scopes check each as you can have different lease time per scope. Also check your DNS, in forward and reverse domain and arpa (right click) properties -> name server tab and ensure all name servers are listed with correct ips. Edited December 19, 2013 by mikeyd101
Trapper Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Also clear you DNS out every now and again - never hurts to remove old client names which no longer exist.
Koldov Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I don't control DHCP as we have a 'managed' CISCO router/switch set-up that deals with it, but our servers control DNS and I have noticed similar issues. There are a few old threads on here about it. Here's mine: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-server-2000-2003/129029-dns-issues-help.html You can check DHCP lease times from any workstation (I think) using ipconfig /all in the output it returns will be lease obtained and lease expires. Ours is 24 hours, but it's a bit more complex than that and I am still trying to find the optimum. Kol
TechSupp Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 Quickly heckled on a PC and DHCP lease set to 8 days. Another job for the New Year List
