Slow copying times from client

I've noticed that recently when moving/copying files from a server directory to another server location or even to a different dir on the same server via an XP workstation, it takes forever to complete this whereas it's normal when carrying out the task directly on the server. I know it's better to move files on the target machine itself but this never used to be an issue.

I had VMware installed on my station which seemed to slow network connections down in this way and have since uninstalled it and this seems to have resolved the issue. Any ideas why VMware may be causing this?

Disable TCP checksum/offloading on your network card.

I don't seem to have an Offload Transmit TCP Checksum in the configure properties for my NIC. Is this where i'm meant to be looking for this option or am i being a bit of a spanner?

If you load up device manager then open up your NICs properties, there should be settings listed in the advanced tab. Some of these will be related to TCP Offloading/Checksumming.

The only properties i get are: Link Down Power Saving, Link Speed/Duplex Mode, Network Address, Optimal Performance, Recieve Buffer Size, WakeUp on ARP/PING, WakeUp on Link Change and WakeUp using APM Mode.

None of these seem to be related to TCP Offloading/Checksumming

It's probably the 'optimal performance' one.

That was disabled. I've changed it to enabled now so will test and see.
