Were looking at changing internet providers. Someone has reminded me that we are connected to the janet network. Can someone explain the advantages and disadvantages of this.

If your connected to janet it doesnt get much better than that in terms of internet. Why are you looking to change providers ?

Rock solid connectivity and not for profit, party of a connected community of millions, why would you change? I assume it is a cost issue.

Were connected through our LA, and we are looking for a bit more independence.

I would just get it moved away from the LA. You should also consider if the LA provides you with services that might not work on an independent connection eg internal emails etc

Ah right, lots of work in sorting out an alternative to the LA then. Maybe talk to Janet about going direct, although I suspect there will be a few costs involved. I am sure other members will advise who you can look at as well.

We've just been pushed into moving providers. We have looked at a lot of different ones, BT, Virgin, Softcat and finally went with Exponential-e. These are very competitive ( for 100 over 100) but the upgrade costs to move up to a gig bearer in the future was way better than anyone else.

Is a connection to ja.net that important to you though, do you use the services provided? do you use the services provided by your RBC or do you just need filtered internet?
