jjohnsoncantell Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Need a bit of advice please. Our students have figured out that they can access restricted sites using google translate. Specifically they can bypass the youtube education filter and also seem to be able to access some age restricted stuff too. We are using a lightspeed filter and were wondering if anyone else had the same problem?
SovietRussia Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Block URLs with this: &act=url It may cause issues on other sites, but its a string that Google adds to translated sites.
jjohnsoncantell Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 will give that a try, thanks very much
hyb80 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Block URLs with this: &act=url It may cause issues on other sites, but its a string that Google adds to translated sites. Where do you go to block part of a url in Lightspeed? Do we know if lightspeed have a fix for this?
jjohnsoncantell Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Not sure as yet, been so busy lately havent had the time to test it properly. In the half term im going to install the latest sw version on the filter to see if its been solved or not. Our licence is up next year and considering not renewing due to this problem and the youtube for schools not working properly, the main reason we went for it.
hyb80 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 You can get round this by doing the following: Translate.google.com is in the security.proxy category by default because it can be used this way. We therefore recommend blocking the site completely. Below are some links to ‘safe’ translation sites (I checked them a couple of weeks ago). We could redirect traffic to translate.google.com so when a user visits it they get one of the links below. Full Text Translator, Language Translation | Free Translations from Dictionary.com Free Online Translation I havent done this yet, I want to know it doesnt stop the mobile apps from working
