Hi,

Using VMWare converter 5 for the first time trying to visualise one of our old Windows 2003 32 servers into an ESXi 5.5 virtual vSphere server

The converter software is installed locally on the physical server and is connecting to the virtual ESXi 5.5 server. The physical server has 6 partitions on it's RAID array C,D,E,F,G and H (C is active/system, D,E,F, and G are all active and H is not active)

When I try to convert transferring all the partitions I receive "A general system error has occured - Unknown system error" BUT If I only select the C drive to transfer, the converter initiates and starts the conversion? So I assuming it is something to do with the other partitions?

This is the error log I receive (I have bolded the interesting part)

Any help on this would be greatly recieved as I am new to this. Thanks

I think the key line here is "Can't have more then one active partition on a disk" and you've stated that D-G are all active as well as C.

Ignoring how this was done, do you know why D-G are set as active? If they aren't boot partitions I can't imagine why they would need to be.

NO, this is 1 of 3 very old RM servers from 2006 that are starting to give up on us. Hence the new world of virtualisation in case they do.......... Believe me the drive had 4 more paritions which I deleted already but these are all needed for RM bits. There are definitely no system files on them. I am hoping someone knows a work around as I can't make them not active (Will try in CMD in a second) Being in the middle of an academic year we cannot build new DC's from scratch which is going to be a summer thing. Thanks for the input

Yep that's the one. Just spoke to RM and I need the C and D drive, as the D drive has the RMNetwork folder. And of course you can't unactive it for some reason???? even in CMD. Can't wait to get away from RM in the summer now, nothing is ever easy! So I have transferred only C and H. And am going to try and create a new drive in VM and share the D drive that way. Let you know how I get on.
