[sccm 2007] OSD - new machine picking up existing machine's name

I am trying to image a new machine using SCCM 2007 and it keeps picking up an existing machine's name.

 

First time I tried to deploy it picked up an obsolete machine name. I deleted this machine from SCCM and tried again. It picked up another obsolete machine name.

I then deleted all the obsolete machines and tried again. Now it is picking up the name of an active PC.

 

I have compared the MACs and they are different, however the the System UUIDs are very similar, just one digit difference.

 

Any ideas on what I can do here as this is the first time I have come across this?

I just read that sccm flips the computer GUID around to make its UUID variable. The machines actually have the same GUID, a generic one it seems as a few machines have this GUID: 00020003-0004-0005-0006-0007-00080009

 

*sigh* time to get onto manufacturer...

 

Or...actually just add it to the banned GUID list to force it to use the MAC.

Had to use a utility to generate a new GUID to fix this.

SMBIOS.exe run from bootable usb stick. I got it from pc provider's support but have seen it available from motherboard manufacturer's website (or something similar).
