sonofsanta Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 It is indeed real, apart from the colour obviously, and I thank you kind sir. +rep sir, +rep. I just trawled back through your posts for the last week to find the ones I'd thanked so I could remove the thanks so the site would let me +rep you before I restored my thanks. The beard is that deserving. On a separate note, @Dos_Box; is there a way of stopping Thanks contributing to that +rep block, or just taking the damnable thing off entirely? I don't think there's anyone here who'd be sad enough to game rep... I think... 1
X-13 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I don't think there's anyone here who'd be sad enough to game rep... I think... Either do I... ~growing impressive beard~ I have nearly 17k rep [iIRC] just for posting stupid jokes.
StevieM Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 +rep sir, +rep. I just trawled back through your posts for the last week to find the ones I'd thanked so I could remove the thanks so the site would let me +rep you before I restored my thanks. The beard is that deserving. I am humbly honoured, and accept your +repping with much gratitude. On a separate note, how does the whole rep thing work?
X-13 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 On a separate note, how does the whole rep thing work? If used properly, you're supposed to get rep and thanks for helpful posts. The higher your rep, the more trustworthy your input is.
sparkeh Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 If used properly, you're supposed to get rep and thanks for helpful posts. The higher your rep, the more trustworthy your input is. Its down to the individual user to look at the rep leaderboard and judge how successful that system works.

Just spotted the little star. Has that always been there or has it just appeared because someone +repped me? Never noticed it before. I've also spotted that my Rep Power has leapt up from 27 to 40 and I now have 4 light green bars. As for trustworthy input... not so sure about that one.
sonofsanta Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) If you look at who's top on rep, it tends to be people who link to a lot of stuff. Not that there's owt wrong with that! Just that it shows that "links to things people like" tends to be more powerful than "always saving people's backsides". The way I see it, it's more a measure of who's engaged in the community rather than who necessarily offers the sagest advice - there tend to be more thanks given out for sarcastic images that make you smile than posts that actually solve a technical problem (though I try for both). It's just become a way of acknowledging a post, which is fine so long as you know to treat it as that. Edited December 17, 2013 by sonofsanta Clarification in first para

The little star has always been there... or should have been. And the jump from 27 to 40 was a result of me swinging my rep hammer, as for reasons too mysterious to comprehend I seem to have gathered rather a few points and thus automatically hand out more points any time I +rep. The more you get the more you can give.
StevieM Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 The more you get the more you can give. If only that were true of life. Seems to be the more you get, the more you want. Uh-oh! I suddenly feel a strong urge to commit random acts of kindness.
X-13 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Uh-oh! I suddenly feel a strong urge to commit random acts of kindness. Been there, done that. Might start doing it again...

Don't think I have ever neg-repped anyone before... muahahahaha muahahahahaha mua *cough* *cough* hahahahaha
VeryPC Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 Morning folks. We've stabilised the continuum I think. It's a bit of a heavy handed approach, but I think we'll be free of catastrophe for today at least. The supercomputer protecting our time-plane is analysing the output of today's video for anomalies right now, and your prize draw will be viewable really soon. Al

Just when I'm getting bored of playing with Spiceworks. [We have NO internal helpdesk anymore... I need to get something sorted.]
VeryPC Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 ....and were done! Watch on for today's prize draw from MADvent 2013: http://youtu.be/C15p7O0ZOBI REMEMBER, entries are still being taken. If you're in the UK and work in IT support, PM me your professional details to be included, OR, if you have entered a VeryPC competition before, all you need to do is post in the thread that you'd like to join in and we'll look up your details from before and add you. Either way is good. Good luck for tomorrow everyone! Al 4
StevieM Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 We've stabilised the continuum I think. Still having problems here, I'm afraid, and it's not confined to Edugeek users. The bursar has just said she's meeting herself coming back. Oh well, at least tomorrow I may have time to go back and watch yesterdays (and todays) videos. That is if time doesn't freeze before 2pm tomorrow!

I just got a phonecall from myself in the past, passing on a message from old man me, congratulating me on winning the star prize for MADvent 2014... Also, roboAl says hello from the Emma induced apocalypse. 1

hallb15 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Awesome! Just when I'm getting bored of playing with Spiceworks. [We have NO internal helpdesk anymore... I need to get something sorted.] +1 for Spiceworks Helpdesk (it will be even better when we've ditched LLN)
X-13 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 +1 for Spiceworks Helpdesk (it will be even better when we've ditched LLN) At the moment I just have it installed on my desktop, while I'm playing with it. I wish the user portal had more customisation options... And hopefully SSO works properly.

And hopefully SSO works properly. I know what you mean, but you can customise it a bit by adding HTML to the pages (use the Source button) and also add your own images/logos by putting them in the C:\Program Files\Spiceworks\pkg\gems\spiceworks_public-\images\portal folder - then when you reference them in the HTML they are in "/images/portal/file.gif" 1
sonofsanta Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) SSO worked fine on 6.1, dunno about 7.x if that's what you're playing with. User Portal had plenty of customisation (read: simplification) available when we did it, but then I didn't want much from it - the more basic the better as far as I'm concerned. Sorry, hang on, continuum wobbles. It felt like I just discussed a serious work topic in a Madvent thread... nah, can't be. Edited December 18, 2013 by sonofsanta simplication is not a word 1
X-13 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 NORTH! [i can't remember how to spell your name... ] Trade prizes?

X-13 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) Do you mean his Brazil Nut Toffee for the PS4? Yeah. [but actually no, with a side of go [censored] yourself] Sorry, hang on, continuum wobbles. It felt like I just discussed a serious work topic in a Madvent thread... nah, can't be. The continuum is in the corner sobbing... I'm actually doing work. Edited December 18, 2013 by X-13 1
