Make logging in offline faster?

Hi,

 

We have staff laptops that have to be joined to the domain for some programs/documents.

 

These laptop are regulary taking out side of school for teaching at pupils homes etc but we are finding really slow loging times when windows cant find the network but joined to a wireless network.

 

Ive so far set in GPO:

Startup policy processing wait time - 10 Seconds

Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon - Disabled

Are you using local logons for the laptops when they are being taken off site? Or are you relying on cached network profiles?

 

I'm just confused by you saying they can't find the network but are joined to a wireless network....?

Cached profiles with offline files enabled for their home directory.

 

Sorry, that was my guess. Thought it may be searching the wireless that is was joined to for a Dns or networking device and not timing out quick enough.

 

Have tried using local account for outside use but they couldn't cope with multiple accounts.

As themightymrp says, are you using cached network profiles?

 

We only allow local profiles on staff laptops and stop changes propagating to the server. Avoids unnecessary attempts to connect to the server outside of school.

Hi You may want to configure another GPO setting as stated in the below thread. Make sure you do this only on the laptops OU to avoid it being applied to other stations that are not exhibiting this behaviour.

 

Slow Logon and Roaming Profile issues

 

Set maximum wait time for the network if a user has a roaming user profile or remote home folder

 

I would not set it to 0 because this means that on wireless on the school network it might have issues. I have set ours to be 6 seconds.

another thing that happens randomly is right when the desktop should load the screen goes black with just the cursor in the middle.
