Alis_Klar Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Hi, I am interested in buying the new ActivPanel Touch. I have had a look at the tech specs but need to know if Promethean have done anything to improve on CleverTouch hardware? For example I find the CleverTouch and similar boards to have issues with Parallax (due to gap between digitiser glass and LCD) and inaccurate hand writing compared to an oldschool ActivBoard. I haven't seen a Smart touch board in person yet but they say they've added proprietary secret sauce to the usual infrared digitiser to improve performance. Also have these new ActivPanels been tested with USB extenders? We have CleverTouch and iBoards which hate USB extenders that have worked well with USB ActivBoards.
phillyrovers Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Hi Alis_Klar, I have not personally "played with" any other manufacturers Infra-Red devices so I cannot comment on the performance of them when compared with the Promethean ActivPanel Touch. I do know that the Infra-Red bezel profile on the ActivPanel Touch is very narrow, meaning that the point that a touch is detected is very close to the surface, which gives highly accurate responses to touch for precision work. CAT 5 USB extenders can be used with the ActivPanel Touch, and has been tested using a CAT5 USB extender length of 15m without any issues. I would recommend that you contact a Promethean Reseller and gather further information from them as they should be able to provide you with more collateral around this. Hope this helps.
Alis_Klar Posted November 28, 2013 Author Posted November 28, 2013 (edited) The supplier of the iBoards we got over the summer has still not been able to get them working via Cat5 USB extenders. I am going to buy a mini PC and mount it to the back of the board. Kudos to Promethean for adding a VESA mounting point rather than forcing users to buy their integrated PC. Does Promethean recommend using a HI-LO lift with the ActivPanel Touch? Edited November 28, 2013 by Alis_Klar
phillyrovers Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Hi Alis_Klar, I will try answer your question surrounding the HI LO lift. I'll be honest and say i'm not sure what a HI LO Lift is, although from a quick Google search I can see that this appears to be some kind of stand for VESA compatible devices to attach to. If this is the case, Promethean do actually sell a mobile solution for the ActivPanel Touch, as well as standard wall mounting brackets (provided with all ActivPanel Touch) for permanent installation. So I suppose the choice is yours, but bear in mind that Promethean can and will only support products that they supply.
Alis_Klar Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 An electric powered lift screwed to the wall which allows the screen to be raised or lowered. They also have trolley variants 1
Alis_Klar Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 When are these coming down in price? Can only dream.... Microsoft Windows 8 [82-inch Touchscreen][Hands-on][MWC 2012][HD] - YouTube Perceptive Pixel - Home
psydii Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 So what is the difference between these PPI screens and say ActivPanel or VII networks Alpha Touch?
Alis_Klar Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 They cost in the region of £15-20K and use capacitive (like iPad) rather than infrared. Also the LCD and touch layer are closely bonded to avoid parallax issues.
