The User Profile Service Failed the Logon :( Win7 64 bit

Hi guys,

 

Im having an issue where students cant log on to a specific image that we usually roll out to staff laptops.

 

Bit of background as ive inherited this network.

 

Students have mandatory profiles with desktop start menu etc redirected

Staff have no profile set in AD

 

Students usually logon to W7 32 bit machines

Staff use a mixture of 32bit and 64bit.

 

Ive deployed a 64 fresh 64-bit image and get the same problem.

 

If I remove the mandatory profile from a student user then they can log on but obviously this isn't ideal.

 

So, what can I do now?

 

Do I need a separate mandatory profile for 64 bit desktops and if I do, how will they effect the users when they log onto 32bit desktops?

Question is, do you need mixed 32 and 64bit Windows 7 installs? If not, stick with one or the other.

 

And to the best of my knowledge a Windows 7 profile works the same irrelevant of version.

 

If you create a 64bit Windows 7 mandatory profile and then log into a 32Bit machine, what happens?

Yeh I think we do as all our VDI machines are 32 bit where the usage is limited to office type tasks.

However, the media department have just purchased some laptops with 8GB RAM so they need 64bit

you can overide profiles on a per pc basis so force anyone (unfortunately that would include admins/teachers) to get a mandatory profile thats different)

 

computer config\admin templates\system\user profiles\set roaming profile path for all users logging onto this computer
