USB stick failing

One of our teachers has a usb drive that you can plug in and see the files, but most of them when you click on them says the path is invalid then the window closes and windows finds the usb disk again.

I have tried the scan and repair option on windows to no avail.

 

Im taking it that the stick is on the way out... do you have any free software that I could recommend to him to install at his house ' not going on the network here' to help him try to get some of the files off?

We've used Recuva before - more often than not finds something.

is this a usb harddrive? 2.5" type. They need extra power an I've seen them open and run then fall over when you try to access a file. Try plugging the drive into the back of the PC (the usb ports tend to have more amps at the back)

Testdisk is good. Shouldn't be storing valuable stuff on a usb stick.
