We've just had a student who has one of our supervised iPads with a strange thing. He plugged it in to a computer which has iTunes installed to copy some data off it and it said you can't as it's supervised. We plugged it in to a computer without iTunes installed and you can just access it like a pen drive.

When did you supervise them? Since iOS 7, Apple Configurator has had an option for "Other PCs" to access them.

 

Like, I just tried now - iPad, Supervised yesterday, this setting turned on, works fine on Windows (Like a pen drive)

I'll check that out, but for me that doesn't really answer why you can't access it just because iTunes is installed on the PC. Apple's own software prevents you accessing an Apple device?

Seems like these iPads were supervised using an older version of Apple Configurator. Previously it was only possible to manage a supervised device on the Mac it was supervised on. In the newer version however they have added an option where you can manage the device on other computers. Strange that it only prevents you from communicating with the device when iTunes is installed though :S

I'll check that out, but for me that doesn't really answer why you can't access it just because iTunes is installed on the PC. Apple's own software prevents you accessing an Apple device?

 

Sorry, I didn't read that bit I have absolutely no idea, tried a reinstall of iTunes?
