MattDLEA Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Does anyone have an idiots guide for seting up a server or old pc to monitor my network connection and switches? @Mr_Jiminy We have had a few random network issues and would like to know how to investigate this more. Also is there anything I can use that will alert me via text or email if either the server goes down or the connection into the school goes? cheers
Jamman960 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I would look towards Nagios/TheDude/Cacti for general monitoring, syslog will only allow you to receive error messages from devices rather than usage/performance stats I'm pretty sure there is a guide on here for Nagios I keep meaning to setup a monitoring VM but never seem to get round to it
twin--turbo Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 we use Kiwi for syslog. Looked a splunk but nearly fell of my chair when they called with a price! Rob
