RogerCorrigan Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Hi guys, what is the best piece of software (not SIMS Emerge) to access SIMS on an iPad/iPhone? Preferably hosted on Windows 7. Citrix Xenapp and VMware View look good but aren't able to host from a win7 machine .

kmount Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I'd suggst something like Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS) for this using the new MS RDP client that works on the iPad.

You could combine with terminal services or create virtual PCs. I take it you need full client so just access through SLG or Tasc software isn't an option?
bclarke Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 RDS and 2X Client. Great setup and you can do the fiddly windows stuff as 2X has a mouse pointer. Best of all it is a free app and easy to configure. We use this for online registrations and works really well.

Ya know, the one that management must belive exists as it's an apple and it can do anything... Oh hold on, it's a consumer device not a business device.. But on a serious note, if you have never tried using RDP or any other remote session from a touch tablet then be prepared for a dissapointing experience. And using a product like full blown SIMS is goin to be quite awkward and the potential for mistakes to be made is much greater than on a proper device. We are going to look at PARS connect as it's designed to interface with mobiles. We had Emerge at our sister site but it got dropped for some reason. Rob 4
theeggmaster Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 We're trialling Bromcom Webfolder SD at the moment. It works great for the things that you need as a teacher (registers, assessment manager entry, student details). It's all through a browser.
RichCowell Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) I looked at the SIMS option, and Bromcom a while ago, we've since reviewed them again and gone with PARS and PARS Connect... just in the process of getting going with it now... Definitely worth checking out, and was cheaper than Bromcom and considerably cheaper than SIMS... We've not started using it fully yet, but I'd be happy to answer any questions I can... zag Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I heard a rumour Capita may be bringing something out soon... Not surprising really as most schools have ipads now.
