Increase the existing DCHP scope.

Morning all,

 

I'm having fun trying to increase our exising dhcp scope, which is currently set to:

 

10.45.224.1 to 10.45.224.254

 

Our subnet mask is 255.255.240.0, which I'm assuming should allow us to use addresses up to 10.45.239.254.

 

What I'm not sure on is the best way to proceed. Do I just ammend the 'End IP address' value in the current scope properties (see pic) to something like 10.45.225.254 (giving us another 254 IPs)? Or are there horrible implications?

Check with your LEA, somebody else may share the same subnet and have the other ranges. In this case i'd say dont try and do it yourself. You may cause more probs than you realise.

Hi, I have checked -they've confirmed I can use these ranges. I was hoping someone could let me know of the implications.

Just ammend the end address and extend the range. Make sure you exlcude .255 and .0 addresses though. Some devices are brain damaged and don't like being given these IPs.

So as long as I'm sure that we wont share an IP range on this subnet with another lan, then I should be ok?

yep. If your paranoid, run a network scan and see if anything is there.
