Openfiler shares read only on Macs

We use openfiler to host a share for Staff RW and Students RO access. This works fine on all the Windows machines, but when they access the share on our Macs, they all show up a access denied (showing the no entry symbol)

 

On the Windows machines the permissions are being correctly applied, but the macs seem to be ignoring the permissions - even denying access to administrators as well.

 

Anyone got any ideas what I might have configured incorrectly? This is a rebuilt v2.6 openfiler box and the old one (an earlier 2.2 version) worked fine with macs and windows machines.

Hmm from testing with new shares on the 2.6 box, and on my other 2.2 and 2.3 boxes it seems Mac access to SMB shares in version 2.6 is broken!

 

I'll have to rebuild it back to the old version.

can you export NFS instead?

I didn't need to use NFS on the 2.3 version, and I tried enabling it on 2.6 but it still denies access. Even if you set the Share Access Control to Public it still fails!

 

Looks like there is something fundamentally borked with Macs and SMB shares in 2.6 - it allowed a connection once, then denied it. Shame really as I liked openfiler but I'll have to ditch it and try freenas now.

is there a 2.6 release?

 

Ours is 2.99 but it just disskes a pair of iSCSI volumes fot testing.

 

I seem to remember giving up on samba on OF on when I ran it at home as I had strange permissions issues with my Linux laptop. I eventualy gave up and just virtualised my home file server.
