twin--turbo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 as it says right at the top of the NDR you have no MX record for mrwu365.co.uk 1
twin--turbo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 More than that there is not even a registered domain for mrwu365.co.uk Rob 1
MrWu Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 (edited) Sorry Twin Turbo in the original thread I mentioned I did stick am MX record in (although it was a busy summer, so cant remember if that's all I need to do: "testing with @MrWu365.onmicrosoft.com seems ok, so pointing to a MX record issue for mrwu.co.uk itself (MX record is pointing to ms33288892.msv1.invalid.outlook.com. in 123.reg " is that MX record look right though, looking at TechNet I also needed to add autodiscover, etc? PS I changed to mrwu365.co.uk from my real school domain just in case. sorry .. Edited October 19, 2013 by MrWu
twin--turbo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 so the mrwu domains are just bogus? as neither has an mx or ns Rob
MrWu Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 yes, I a bit paranoid about putting my actual school domains in a forum so I always do a bogus one...
twin--turbo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Have you got the school domain name in 365 There used to be "Accepted Domains" but I think the later fudged it so that you have to add a DNS entry on their365 DNS control pannell . Microsoft want you to use their DNS full stop but it's not necessary Rob 1
twin--turbo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 following you real MX. ms33288892.msv1.invalid.outlook.com has no a-record. I guess the "invalid" means something. ms22083793.msv1.invalid doesn't look right for an MX record. - Domains in Office 365 - Office 365 - Microsoft Office 365 Community Rob 1
twin--turbo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 There should be a domain verification process which will give you a "txt record" to add to your 123Reg DNS host, it's 2-3 years since I looked at it but it was fairly straight forwad. This is there so that microsoft can verify you are the correct DNS administrator for your domain. Rob 1
MrWu Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 Double Thanks rob! that will teach me for doing too many things at once but not finishing up in summer! it does make sense now, will get the txt records created!
twin--turbo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 this is the way you want to do it. Add your domain to Office 365 but continue to manage your domain's DNS records - Office 365 for professionals and small businesses 1
MrWu Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 Thanks Twin turbo The ms33288892.msv1.invalid.outlook.com. was indeed a way I used for MS to verify that I owned the domain (TXT was another way to do it) After that's verified by Office 365 the portal will post the CNAME/MX entries needed to activate mail etc all coming back to me now!
twin--turbo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 No Problem. Does remind me that I need to shut down our 365 as it's no longer the official student e-mail service. Rob Thanks Twin turbo The ms33288892.msv1.invalid.outlook.com. was indeed a way I used for MS to verify that I owned the domain (TXT was another way to do it) After that's verified by Office 365 the portal will post the CNAME/MX entries needed to activate mail etc all coming back to me now!
MrWu Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 Do you use google apps instead? I have that one setup too but was looking for the same vendor across the board. There are some retarded decisions made by MS though ( would have made the whole thing unbeatable) ie should have made onenote , skydrive pro available across ALL platforms and synchronisable on A2 package, silly little things (for example you can't upload pictures from IOS on the camera roll with Skydrive PRO, although the recent announcement of Office packages available for Students OCs and MAC sweetens it a bit.
twin--turbo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Students have basic 365 via our VLE. We host our own Exchange for staff.
EduTech Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Hi, If you need any further guidance, check out the following information: Set up Office 365 - Office 365 for enterprises In short, - You need to first register your domain in Office 365, and go through the verification steps to prove that you own the domain. You can do this by placing a unique TXT Record/MX Record into your Public DNS. - Once you have done this, you will then be provided with the MX Records, CNAME Records, TXT Records you need to place into your Public DNS to ensure mail-flow, autodiscover etc. works correctly. - Then, You need to assign the relevant licenses to your user accounts, and ensure they have the correct SMTP Alias applied to their account. You shouldn't have any issues, if you follow all of the steps. if you are experiencing unexpected behaviour, post it up on here and I am sure someone can help you out, or log a support ticket via your administration portal. Thanks, James.
MrDisco Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Hi All I'm having a similar problem to the one MrWu describes with Office 365. I have a school domain for governors with 1&1 and have set up an Office 365 account (free A2 level) for email service. I verified the domain using the ***.invalid*** MX record but have had nothing come through from Microsoft about updating the MX record(s). I can log into the Office 365 service and send emails but I can not receive any emails. I am getting mail delayed messages but no failure messages. Can you shed any light on this? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Chris
