_techie_ Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hi, We have an interesting problem! Dell OptiPlex 745 models cannot play HD videos on youtube in any flavour of IE (8,9 or 10. Older OptiPlex Models can play fine at a lower quality (normally defaults to 360p) Tries to play at 1080p, We get "An error has occurred, please try again later". Obviously trying again later does not resolve! Trying to play at lower quality (420p) also fails. We have tried: Clean image from Win7 CD with no policies, and inbuilt Windows drivers. Updating Windows graphics drivers to latest version from Intel site (no luck). Running latest versions of Flash and Java (11.9 and 7u45) Tried turning down all security settings for cookies and trusted sites to minimum also does not resolve the issue. Latest version of Chrome plays identical video without issue, but automatically downs the quality to 360p without any intervention. Any ideas!? Cheers _techie_

Cheers _techie_ I believe this is down to the graphics chip in the machine also happens with the gx220 and the optiplex 755 ! Dont thing there is a fix

FN-GM Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Have you tried a BIOS update? In the past they have updated firmware on the graphics. Are you using those dell splitter cables or plugging straight into the DVI port? 1

_techie_ Posted October 18, 2013 Author Posted October 18, 2013 Using the splitter cables that go DVI to VGA. Unfortunately, the monitors we have are VGA only. I'll try the BIOS update first.

Give it a go with headphones plugged in and see if it works if possible, I had a similar issue with some PC's (not Dell though) and they would work if they had headphones or speakers plugged in and show the above error if not. Turn's out the new YouTube player checks for an audio device and if it cant find one it causes an error. We solved it by disabling Auto Jack detection so Windows things it has something plugged in all the time.
mac_shinobi Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 If it is intel onboard graphics - may be worth while finding out which onboard graphics card it is and removing all the other drivers and installing the driver from the intel website ?

Has anyone got any ideas of a solution other than having to plug headphones/speakers in? We have noticed that it is only when it tries to switch to HD on auto detection, is there a way we can make it default to standard? Thanks Skr

Does joining the YouTube 'Feather' or HTML5 trials make any difference? It should because they change how videos are played. Failing that there are plug-ins for Chrome and Firefox that can force specific Youtube settings like quality/resolution e.g. YouTube Options, YouTube Center
