witch Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) My son has one of these - the case is coming to bits - the hinges are broken, the plastic has cracked and the whole thing is not in good shape. But it works fine -it was an expensive laptop in its day and he cannot really afford a new one of similar spec. Is there anywhere I can get a case - or a broken machine I can cannibalise? Grateful for any help Edited October 16, 2013 by witch
mac_shinobi Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Ebay for spares / repairs or maybe @VeryPC or can @ICTDirect_Dave help ?
witch Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Ta. I did look at ebay but with no luck yet.
Domino Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 if you know the exact model, these guys might be able to provide most of the assembly as spares: Inspiron Laptop Parts | Dell Inspiron Replacement Parts 1
mac_shinobi Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) if you know the exact model, these guys might be able to provide most of the assembly as spares: Inspiron Laptop Parts | Dell Inspiron Replacement Parts Handy - curious though @Domino - do you know of anywhere like that for Lenovo laptops, spares / repairs or parts etc ? Got work laptops ranging from T400 laptops ( 6475-2Y2 / 6475-9Y4 ) , T410 ( 2537-D88 ), T420 ( 4236-CP7 ) and T430 ( 2349-KQ1 ) We always need to get replacement hard drives / screens and sometimes other parts etc Edited October 16, 2013 by mac_shinobi
Achandler Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Most hard drives, cd drives, screens etc are generic. Take the old one out and get the part number off them (screens are easy to get hold of). Plastic casing is the worse thing to get hold off, you need proper suppliers for them, some keybaords too.
Domino Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 These guys (although having a shonky website) are pretty good for the tricky lenovo bits: IBM laptop spare parts, IBm laptop parts, Lenovo laptop spares, Lenovo laptop spare parts, parts for IBm laptops FYI: there are UK based Dell spares specialists too - but they've always been a real PITA to deal with in my experience, YMMV 1
witch Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Thanks - but the cost of a new casing is beyond his means at the moment, I think. The ebay one is not quite the same model - does anyone know if the cases are all the same for the Inspiron 17Rs? I would suspect so but I am not sure
