HarryMonkey Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) Where I am living at the moment, in a shared house, my landlord has a BT home hub wireless setup downstairs in the lounge. He lets us all use the wifi and has no problems with what devices we attach. I have a Buffalo NAS as well as a DLNA enabled Blu-Ray player along with a Netgear Access point with 4 port switch built in. What I want to be able to do is to plug my RJ45 devices into the Netgear box and then use that to talk wirelessly to the BT hub and then beyond out on to the Internetz. Should this be possible? (My experience of home wireless is somewhat limited to plugging it in and it working). (Connecting to the home hub via a CAT5 cable is not an option, it has to be done via wifi). A Raspberry Pi (£25) with a USB wireless dongle (£5) can be set up to do this - if you fancy learning a little more about networking it might make a good project.
psydii Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I must say the the TP-Link stuff seems to be really well engineered. As a long-shot I tried a PCi-E 3x3 wifi card in a desktop that we needed to place in a room with no structured cabling. It works a treat, better in fact than stock wifi that you get in most laptops!
