Trigger Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Hello again all, Two part question today, neither of which are related! First one I recon will be very easy. Can you allow a website for an individual user without having ot make a whole new policy. Main thing I am thinking is things like photography sites, personal blogs little things that I don't necessarily want everyone to get to but some users may have a valid reason to access. From what I can see and my guess the answer will be no, but I thought I'd try. Second, 4 on Demand. What a pain. I have ads blocked for obvious reasons, but without allowing them videos from 4oD (even on Youtube) will not play. Is there a way around this? Thanks in advanced all.
OB1 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Unfortunately the answer to both is no. You need an individual user as the 'Who' in a policy to ensure that the allows/blocks only apply to them and don't interfere with anything else 4OD seem to have coded their player to hang if the adverts aren't available. This is probably deliberate. They also pull their adverts from a multitude of servers that change on a regular basis, so allowing only their adverts would quickly descend into a hair-removal exercise. Youtube however should be able to deal with this. Which videos on youtube are causing you problems?
Trigger Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 I had a feeling you may say that. Youtube itself is fine, however if a teacher tries to play a 4oD video through youtube (if you look for big fat gypsy wedding that our sociology department were using for example) it does the same thing.
OB1 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Seems fine at this end. Are you doing any other content mods on youtube? And could you post/PM the specific video?
Trigger Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 To the best of my knowledge the only thing that there is content modification wise is safe search and comment removal. I'll PM you a link to a video I have tried as I know there is some swearing in it.
jonspurs Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 4oD is doing my head in. Sometimes it plays fine. Sometimes it detects 'ad-blocker'. Smoothwall logs shows loads of random ad servers but I don't want to let that crap through. How are you all managing this? One example that is 50/50 is The Complainers - 4oD - Channel 4 Cheers, Jon
Trigger Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 I just gave up on this, there wasn't really enough there education wise for me to have the time to keep messing with it. I think the only way would be to allow the ad servers which could open up a big can of worms.
RobFuller Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 This 4od issue with ad blocker is a royal pain, did anyone get any further with it?
jonspurs Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Spoke to Smoothwall...they got a tec article...log a call with them.
Trigger Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 Excellent I will have to get around to that one when I'm not buried under. Thanks!
