Tenda TEG1024G Network Switch - Any Good?

I am looking to buy a switch to replace a 10/100 switch and have found this:

TEG1024G 24-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch

 

An awful lot cheaper than netgear and other unmanaged switches.

 

Has anyone got or tried one? Are they any good?

The Tenda stuff I've come across has been cheap home routers. They did the job but not sure I'd want one of their switches.

Take a look at the Zyxel GS1910-24. In terms of software features it has a lot to offer, it´s cheap and fanless, too. Unfortunately it doesn´t have any ssh or telnet server onboard.

Personally I'd look for a decent second-hand HP ProCurve. You can find fully managed 10/100 ones for good rates these days, and they all have a lifetime warranty too.

What size network is this for? Hadn't heard of them before now but the price on those looks far too low, I'm sure they'd do the job but at the same time I'd be waiting for it to fail. If its is for a couple of workstations in some random room right on the edge of the network then I wouldn't worry but if you're wanting it to serve anywhere near 24 devices I'd be very cautious.

 

Stick with 10/100 plus gig uplinks if possible, second hand or refurbished hp/cisco would be more reliable and not too badly priced(still not quite that cheap though), the lifetime warrantee's don't carry between owners - they're only valid for the initial purchasing organisation.

Well, HP Procurve is not HP Procurve and Cisco is not Cisco and I wouldnt suggest a brand, but only specific switching series.

 

CommodoreS, you probably want something cheap? I consider "Tenda" noname like TPLink, way below Netgear, Linksys or Zyxel. Nowadays there is no more lack of performance (i.e. oversubscription with ports) for switches like it way 5 - 10 years ago, vendors use ASICs with "non-blocking" / "wirespeed" even on low cost devices. Nowadays it´s (longtime) software support and putting more and more features into the ASIC itself, low energy consumption, warranty.

That comparison isn´t that great, but you can see that there´s much more than having Gigabit ports...

We have a buttload of D-Link 1210-24's which replaced a cacophony of 3com switches and failing Procurve 1800s. They were similar priced (iirc 120 each with a free fibre gbic). We've had a few failures on them re dead ports but still mostly going strong. Still wouldn't suggest buying them unless you're in dire need like we were. We're replacing as and when needed with HP kit.
