How do you mean? Our Lightspeed box is designed to sit physically in the middle of the Internet connection, between the gateway and the rest of the network. There's no configuring gateway settings and so forth for filtering, you simply plug your gateway device into one ethernet port and your core switch in the other (you will then need a third ethernet connection for your management interface, which does need standard gateway settings and so forth, but the filtering will work without that configured). Lightspeed systems have a pretty good support operation - if you ring or email them they should be able to tell you.

At present we don't have a direct connection to the internet, it's run through a Proxy upstream which needs authentication. Hence my reason for asking. I've since found though that Lightspeed only works if it can get straight out to the internet which is what I am now looking at. Does Lightspeed work if the gateway (ISP provided router) is on a different subnet, do you know? You mention there's no configuration needed but I'd assume it would need to know the subnet of the router and all that?

i think theres a setting to allow authentication through a proxy.
