Attendance or School Register

Hi

We're a very small school that currently uses paper registers for attendance.

Does anyone have or know of some free software that will do am and pm daily registers?

Or even if you've written something yourselves.

Ive looked at schooltool which looks like a whole MIS solution .... but I dont trust my linux skills that much yet.

 

Any help please.

Do you have any sort of MIS solution? Does that not have an attendance facility?

No.

 

Since the school is pretty small most of MIS is done separately.

 

Am looking to at least get them to do registers electronically.

I suppose that like any system you need to define what you want out of it. Excel would work in some scenarios, but I can't imagine it would be easy to analyse, particularly as time went on. Is it a primary or secondary school?

Coming from a very small, independent, primary we were on Excel and paper registers probably only because quill pens are no longer available. The move to a proper MIS has been painful, but is not something that we regret now. The fossils have retired and, at last, information is at our finger tips... and registers get taken electronically.

What MIS did you go for elsiegee40?

 

Excel will probably help. Think I've seen some templates on the web.

At least with primary you are likely to have them in the same groups for AM and PM. If not, I can't imagine using anything other than an MIS. If so, it would be easy enough to have dates across the top and names down column A, then a function (countif) to count the number of absences. You might need to have a row for a fake perfect student to give the max possible attendance at any given time. I reckon you'd need 380 columns though, so freeze panes would be necessary.
