Anyone using HUP?

We've got the Home Use program now as part of the OVS - althought I didn't think it still involved a charge for the download it might be useful to staff here.

 

Is anyone using this and if so how are they finding it? My previous experience of a campus agreement was a lot simpler in the fact that the 'campus' could simply distribute the Office cds to employees, rather than individual employees paying £8.95 to download it (a bit of a con in my view!)

We used it at my old school and lots of people bought it.

 

You call it a con, but when teachers can get full office for £8.95 or a rubbish version from the high street for £65 (or whatever it is now) then it is a good deal. The staff also own it I believe so you aren't responsible for them.

We've rolled it out to teaching staff, and so far 4 staff have requested the site code to purchase it and are very happy at the cost saving... less than £10 for the complete Office 2013, in fact I'm tempted to get it myself instead of using open office

Its not so much the cost - its just the fact they charge for a download of a product you've apparently already paid for through OVS!

 

I do think £8.95 is a bargain from the Staff's point of view though - I'll be interested to see what our take up is!

We use it and IMO it's a good scheme. The fact that the agreement is between the staff member and Microsoft means we don't have to police the licence - so if they don't remove the software when they leave (as they should), then I don't care.

So far I've had 8 requests so far - doubling @Boredguys total!

We use the Work at Home option.

Staff sign an agreement and get a copy to use at home.

We use it loads, staff love the fact its cheap. We must have around 50 staff altogether have bought through the scheme.

How do you manage the product keys for Work at Home? I can't see any product keys that we can distribute in the VLSC - however at least the HUP puts the effort onto the staff rather than us!

I prefer HUP for that reason alone. We market it to staff as a discount that the school gets them as en employee benefit, which goes down quite well.

 

Also, I'm pretty sure that the Campus Agreement version is no different, and that direct distribution without charge via the campus is only for the Work At Home licence - the difference with HUP is that personal use is explicitly allowed under the licence, hence the additional charge.

Worth mentioning Dreamspark here, which can allow staff and students to get hold of various expensive MS products to play with. Qualification is a bit tighter as is licensing, but it's a nice benefit. Edited October 4, 2013 by pcstru
