I passed it off as something external - we do get power spikes in that school or one phase failing so I think I got away with it. I still don't know why the UPS didn't work -do you?

I still don't know why the UPS didn't work -do you? best guess(as its one i inherited from previous support company and judging by what they specd as a server) is its carp but its also not something thats easy to test but my gut feeling as it went off immediately is that its fubar luckily nobody seemed to notice (small school and apart from staff laptops and the suite which was empty theres maybe 6 pcs 1

Probably past its best or faulty or the server is just too big for the umph of the UPS. A lot of people swap the Server but forget to check the UPS is big enough. 1

Its the count-proof of quantum indeterminate state theory - it looks as if its working - if tested (ie. routine maintenance) then it will work but absolutely guaranteed to fail when actually needed. DMcCoy Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 If you want UPS to be of any use when the power actually goes off, you need to make sure they aren't near peak load, and that the battery is changed on a reasonable schedule. For APCs I tend to replace the batteries every 3 years, rather than when you find out they are dead by trying to use them!
