Sims in the classroom

I've been asked by our Business Manager about the feasibility of putting Sims on all the (student) PC's in one classroom. The logic behind this is for staff CPD training sessions.

 

Obviously, we'll block the Sims application for students with Group Policy, and Students won't be able to access the S: drive that Sims uses for the connect file.

 

What's your thoughts, and what are the risks of doing this?

We have SIMs deployed to every computer in the school. Locked down between normal policies, S drive etc etc

Yeah got it everywhere here. Students don't have the sims drive mapped or get an icon to launch it or access to c: to launch it from there.

Can't see an issue if its properly locked down.

Same as Steve, Students can not use it without a) the S: being mapped, which is it not for students and b) users being a member of the NTFS group that has permissions for the network share in the first place.

If you have set the permissions right on the SIMS share and via group policy to block the exe from running and dont map s drive to students, you should be ok. Have you got something like impero to protect yourself even further but to be honest a software policy will be fine.

Yes I would lockdown permission to your mapped sims drive/share.

 

Then go ahead and install on any PC.

How do you know....

By that logic don't bother to do anything to restrict it as they can't logon. Every measure taken is worth it.

True, but if they had a network login to go with sims login then they are in regardless if locking down sims on c drive :-)
