mrbios Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I've got a locked PDF document that a music teacher wants to print so she can write on it. It's 7mb and most free options for converting i can find all require it to be less than 5mb. Any suggestions please?
creese Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Foxit PDF Reader: The Best Free PDF Reader to Create, Annotate, Form Fill, View, and Print PDFs ? 1
X-13 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) Using Foxit Reader and CutePDF Writer Download the latest versions of Foxit Reader and CutePDF Writer. These are both free programs. Foxit Reader will allow you to open the PDF file and write it to a PDF printer. CutePDF Writer is a PDF printer than bypasses security restrictions. Trying this process using the Adobe reader and printer will result in the security preventing the writing process. Use Foxit Reader to open the secured PDF file. Select File, then Print to open the printer menu. Print the secured PDF file to CutePDF Writer. Save the printed file to your computer as a new PDF file. Open your new file. You can check the security settings by clicking File, then Properties. The security settings are detailed under the Security tab. Using Microsoft XPS Viewer Open the PDF in Adobe Reader. Select File, then Print. From the Printer drop down menu, select Microsoft XPS Document Writer. This will convert the PDF into an XPS file. When you start the print, you will be prompted to save the file. Open the XPS file with XPS Viewer. This program comes installed with Windows. From the Tools menu, select Print. Select the PDF Printer from the list. You will need either Adobe Acrobat or another PDF writer such as CutePDF. Save the file. After being prompted for a filename, the document will be converted back to PDF. The newly-converted PDF will be unsecured. This method might not work for some security measures applied on the original Secure PDF file. Copied from here Edited September 24, 2013 by X-13 1

free780 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 More importantly how was this pdf brought? Are you allowed legally to strip the security?

wesleyw Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 You can use linux and ghostscript that will just create another doc with no restrictions
mac_shinobi Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 You can use linux and ghostscript that will just create another doc with no restrictions I thought cutepdf used ghost script ?
Arthur Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 print is greyed out so I can't use any of that functionality. As @wesleyw mentioned, GhostScript is what you need. I used a Windows app called PDF Blender which acts as a front-end to GhostScript to remove the restrictions on a PDF I created and it worked a treat. http://i.imgur.com/onpYhmi.png
wesleyw Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Cutepdf might but i dont think it will unlock those restricted pdfs not sure why but i never had any success with it.
