sparkeh Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Does anyone have LSAs taking the dinner register in SIMS? We have an issue where some of the LSAs are able to fill in the dinner register but some aren't. I have compared the users who can do it to the ones who can't but just can't see a difference. Our LA SIMS support took a look but have told us that LSAs are not allowed to take the dinner register and its the ones who are able to do it that are wrong (they quoted Data Protection or something) and there is no way to enable it - but that sounds like vague nonsense to us and we want them to do it. So just wondering if anyone else does it and if it should be possible (I know it works by giving them 'class teacher' role but we don't want to do that).
hardtailstar Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 We had some inspectors in and they pointed out the lsa's were not allowed to take registers. bit strange really i think

Weird. I suspected it was more that they couldn't work out what the problem was

creese Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 'By law, schools are required to record in the attendance register - once at the beginning of the morning session and once in the afternoon...' I have not heard anything that says who can or cannot do this. It is still done by non trained admin staff in some schools. I'm not sure of the Access Rights. Have you tried setting up an LSA group?
sparkeh Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 I'm not sure of the Access Rights. Have you tried setting up an LSA group? Yes we have an LSA group with the same rights over the dinner register as the class teachers. Ok this is weird. The LSAs who *can* do the dinner reg were missed out of the LSA group when the LA set them up...
vikpaw Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 any chance they have an explicit deny in one of their groups ...?

sparkeh Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 any chance they have an explicit deny in one of their groups ...? Well this is the odd thing and what has got me baffled. The LSA group has the permission set to access the dinner reg, however for users in this group it displays but *can't* be edited. The LSAs not in the LSA group have the deny permission set for dinner reg, but it displays and *can* be edited. This is really twisting my noodle now.

I've never set up a specific group or user for DM, I have looked at a school and cannot find a setting for Dinner Registers. How did you get to this?

Are the groups new style SM7 dynamic ones who inherit from a parent? Pipe the lot through a NOT gate and you'll be sorted.
creese Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 What's a "LSA"? Learning Support Assistant
sparkeh Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) I've never set up a specific group or user for DM, I have looked at a school and cannot find a setting for Dinner Registers. How did you get to this? Oh er I was lead to believe it was the run permission for Dinner Money but now you have me thinking... What about other groups they are in? Are the groups new style SM7 dynamic ones who inherit from a parent? Pipe the lot through a NOT gate and you'll be sorted. Only other group they are in is 'Attendance Operative' so they can take the register. We do use SM7 but not sure about dynamic but they don't appear to inherit from what I can see. Unfortunately the LA have been on again and now the dinner registers are screwed for everyone. Hurrah! *walks away from this mess* Edited September 19, 2013 by sparkeh
creese Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Oh er I was lead to believe it was the run permission for Dinner Money but now you have me thinking... From what I can see, it needs SM7|Dinner Money|Student Common|Run
Pyroman Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Sorry to drag up an old thread but for anyone who tries to do this the setting i needed was in SM7|Students|dietary|Meals Recorded. Just had the same issue 1
