Dogsbody23 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Hi, A school I support has asked me to look for some inventory software that they can use keep track of all the IT equipment they have. They ask for something where you can Scan in info with a bar code scanner, store the data and print out a label with various information. Thanks in advance. Dogs
Dos_Box Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 When you say print out a label do you mean the original bar code? The way it usually works is that you buy pre-printed barcodes attach them to item you wnt to record and then scan those in and enter all of the equipment details in along with it. All of the information is then held on a central database. What is it you wish to print out exactly?
Dogsbody23 Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 They just want to print off a label with a serial number that links back to the database.
Dos_Box Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 The SN is usually on the barcode. I think there are systems that will allow you to rpint off barcodes to put on equipment, but on the ones I've used you have the barcodes separately. Printing out something extra seems to be doubling up on work to me.
Dogsbody23 Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 Do you know of any affordable inventory software that has the scanning functionality? It does seem that the reprinting of labels isn't necessary if the db is recording the serial number from a device. thanks
fiza Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Ive got these guys coming in to demo in November. Cant say yet if its any good though. School Asset Manager | The Solution to Better Asset Management
Dos_Box Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 We have had these guys just finish sponsoring a forum: https://www.ischoolaudit.com/
hallb15 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 We've got 3 of these Phoenix II barcode readers from Peninsula. Phoenix II barcode readers for connection to mac or pc, usb. For schools, they come with free Quicktrack Pro database software which can be used for asset management or as a school library package. I use it for both purposes and it works a treat. The support guys know what they are talking about, and will help get your database setup how you want it.
michaellee Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Would like to suggest a good inventory software which is called eStockCard. Quite a good one actually and their website is eStockCard Inventory Software | Inventory System
NikChillin Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 We have a usb hand held scanner which scans into an Excel sheet, the rest can be done from within Excel.
