Which option for the Dell PE R200 with 2x WD Red 2TB?

 

1) Run FreeNas on it and provide network storage?

 

2) Install Server 2012 and virtualise the machine that needs more space?

Personally, I used freenas a few years back. When the user interface changed to the current style, I went off it completely. I have now gone to basics and use debian with webmin on. You can do anything you could do with freenas on debian plus more.

Could you do both - run it as a virtualisation server, give the one machine that needs more space however much space it needs and run FreeNAS as a virtual machine to use the rest of the space?
