Smartboard 880 and Casio XJ-M140

Hello all !

 

We recently had a few smartboard 880 installed in some of our classrooms where we already had relatively new Casio XJ-M140 projectors. However, we have noticed that when the IWB is turned on the remote for the projector stops functioning. Very strange!

 

Turn the board off and the remote works fine.

 

 

Anybody got any ideas? All positive comments gratefully received.

The 880 series boards use 4 camera's, I think these also have 3 infrared emitters on each camera to see where you finger(s) are on the board & it could be that infrared from the smartboard is on the same wavelength as your casio projectors remote..

I suspected as much, but cannot find any information on infrared frequency or ability to possibly change it either on the board or with the Casio projector. Our Hitachi ultra short throws we have bundled with 880's in a couple of other rooms don't seem to suffer from this problem, so are either radio remotes or operate on a different frequency.

A chap from RM was telling me about a school that had bought a bunch of Casio projectors and the new multi touch SmartBoards (I'm guessing the 880 ones) and they were having problems with them interfering with each other. Didn't hear of a solution for it unfortunately.

I know that NEC projectors use IR remotes & don't have any issues with the 880's as that's what we use in our computing labs & I just installed two 880's with NEC projectors in our new nursery (Was told to install them way too low for my liking, but the kids have to reach them)

 

It could be the power of IR from the casio remote is just too low & the smartboard is flooding out IR. I really doubt you will be able to change the IR from the remote or the smartboard to be honest.

The Casio Projectors are unusual in many respects; clover leaf power socket, lens on opposite side, uses smaller M3 screws to mount. It entirely possible it also uses an unusual IR frequency!

 

They come equipped with a front AND rear IR detector. Why not try covering the front IR detector and point the remote at the back of the projector?

I haven't tried it yet, but I had a vender ask a few questions and the answer came back to try what you've suggested. Going to try it tomorrow and will post the results.

Covered up the front IR sensor today, and tested it.

 

It works!

 

The IR from the smartboard must be flooding the front sensor so much that it knocks out the signal from the remote control.

 

Some black insulation tape has done the trick!

We had a similar issue with a Casio projector, this time it was the florescent lights in the classroom that stopped the remote working...lights off, all works fine!!
