Windows 7 student logon taking too long

Hi all

 

We are experiencing issues with Windows 7 log on times. When students log in to a machine on the network it takes 3-7 minutes (sometimes longer)for the desktop to appear. we do not use roaming profiles, any ideas?

 

Any suggestions\advice will be greatly appreciated.

have you turned on verbose vs bormal status messages in gpo (its called something else in windows8/2012 for some dumb reason) computer config\admin templates\system iirc it should show you more info on where its hanging up.

 

best guess hp printer drivers if you deploy them via gpp can seriously hamper logon times but so could a pause in any scripts drive maps to non existant locations via gpp sometimes dns issues could be owt

Have you deployed KB2775511? It's a must.

There could be a number of factors - poor wireless network, lack of memory (RAM), DNS issues. What do you think the problem might be?

I take it you build a 'golden' image and deploy that out? Check the image to make sure there's no superfluous files in your Default profile that's then being copied to all user who logon. Some apps you install may bring with them sample files or demos that are typically put into the My Documents folder. Move them to a more general location that's not part of the Default profile.

An app called Treesize is handy for showing the size of your folder structures.
